Mate selection in humans: parental investment model displays their resources, motivated behaviours should include both type: genetic & learned components. Chapter 2 genetic contributions of motivated behaviour: eibl-eibesfeldt found that when one human recognizes another, a set of patterns of behaviours occurs. A form of instinct (pre-programed behaviour: animals were seen as having some rational instinctive behaviours and humans were seen as having some controlled, rational, instinct behaviour. It can be altered in 4 ways: the kinds of objects or ideas that might elicit an instinct could change. Involve exploring the local environment: several instincts may be triggered simultaneously, and the resulting behaviour will be a blend of the excited instincts. Classical ethology: biology concerned with the evolution, development, and function of behaviour, ethology was conducted by konrad lorenz and niko tinbergen in the 1930s, argued organisms should be observed in natural settings to understand their behaviour.
