PSYC 2220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Sightline, Relative Direction, Initial And Terminal Objects
Document Summary
Spatial vision - being able to interact with objects in our immediate space. We view the world as if we"re viewing it from a single eye; midway between both eyes. We rarely see double; variance in image from each eye. Absolute direction: where is something with respect to myself. Relative direction: where is an object with respect to another object. The initial object would be the reference frame. If two objects are on the same meridian (lined up on the retina) we just determine the location along the retina to distinguish depth. We are better at distinguishing if two things are in the same relative direction than what we would predict based on the number of rods and cones we have (hyper-acuity) We are nowhere near as good at absolute direction than at relative direction. More information has to come into account. Location on retina + direction of eyes in the head = absolute direction.
