Characterizing concepts in psychology is rarely easy to do. The concept of personality is particularly dif cult to provide a working de nition. We advertise ourselves/reduce our personalities for other consumption. People vary in how they think - cognition/thought/perspective. Personality is not like organic chemistry or embryology. Cloninger - underlying causes within the person if individual behaviour and experience. Ryckman - the dynamic and organized set of characteristics of a person that uniquely in uences their cognitions, motivations, and behaviours. Burger - consistent behaviour patterns originating within the individual.
