Persuasion- the process by which a message induces change in feelings, attitudes or behaviours. Elaboration likelihood model -> there are two different routes in the model of persuasion (central route and peripheral route) Persuasion via the central route- focusing the quality of the argument. Can change attitude in a positive way. Persuasion via the peripheral route- acceptance is triggered by incidental cues without much thinking. A peripheral cue might be the apparent expertise, credibility, or attractiveness of the person communicating a persuasive message. When persuasion occurs through the peripheral route, the person is swayed by these cues without engaging in much thought. Issue is personally relevant: knowledgeable in domain. Issue is not personally relevant: distracted or fatigued. Motivation and ability- ability to process the arguments.
