Document Summary

Piaget: believed that intelligence was not random, but was a set of organized cognitive structures that the infant actively constructed (it means the child seeks out information, to see which information it will process and which it will not) The construction occurs through the adaptation to the environment. Stages of development: - piaget believed that the development of qualitatively different cognitive structures occurred through the processes of assimilation and accommodation. When a qualitative change occurs, the infant/child enters a new stage of development. Believed that you go into a stage of development and stay there for a while and then go into a higher stage. Stages were universal, every child regardless of an factors will go through the same stage at the same age. The child understanding of situations is based on sensing information from the environment and producing a motor response.
