There are many controversies revolving in research methods. Deloache"s article is about cognitive development rather than research method. It is a very clever, true, intriguing, well-done experiment. It is about when children starts to understand symbolic representation. And wants to know what happens to the children between the age of two and four. It describes the method and near the end it goes into the theory part. The experiment done was to take a sample (a group of children between 2 and 4 years old) and bring them to a room, allowing them to explore. The experimenters ask the children to find terry, a doll. Afterwards, they would step out of the room, telling them that they are going to shrink the room where the children are asked to find terry again. There are two things to remember: where terry is hidden and the layout of the large room. He is an advocate for one particular approach.
