14 views1 pages

Document Summary

Dependant variable: the outcome variable on which a researcher is interested in studying the effects. You measure the dependent variable after the independent variable has been manipulated. What happens after the iv is manipulated. Good way to remember: that the dependant variable, depends on the experimental manipulation/ the independent variable. When measuring the dependent variable one can face a number of issues. Most commonly: ceiling effects (too easy) ceiling effect is the point at which an independent variable (the variable being manipulated) stops affecting the dependent variable (the variable being measured) Example: a test that is too easy for the people that are taking it would have a ceiling effect because most people would get good grades as a result and would be close to the highest possible score. The floor effect might be found in scores of a math test given to a set of college students.
