Document Summary
We will be looking at memory from a cognitive perspective. The cognitive perspective is developed from the behaviorist perspective. Argues that theses s-r relationships are stamped in. Strict behaviourists believed when you encountered a stimulus that a corresponding set of neurons in your brain was activated. When you respond to the stimulus, it stimulates another set of neurons. These behaviourists believed if you were rewarded for behaving a certain way, there would be a physiological reaction that would cause a connection between these two neuron sets (between the stimulus and response neuron sets). The cognitive perspective agrees with the s-r aspect but they stress the s-o-r relationship. They recognize that something is happening between the stimulus and the response. Behaviour is in uenced by both internal and external factors. He put a bunch of chimps in a cage and then hung some bananas at the top of the cage out of their reach.
