Document Summary

You have option of earning bonus by doing an experiential exercise (one page answer to 3-4 questions about your experience at university, but related to psychology). Sharp-wave ripples during sleep help brain to remember things when you are sleeping. Interrupting sleep interrupts these ripples and creates disturbances in memory. Circadian rhythm developed through evolution leaving us to sleep when we are inactive at night. These are 24 hour rythms (animals have it too). Heart rate, hormones, level of arousal, alertness during the day. Marker of circadian rhythm stage is body temperatre. Temperature decreases as bed-time approaches (for regular sleep-wake cycles). Asynchrony in sleep-wake cycle with time of day: Takes one day for each time-zone crossed to adjust. Extreme time zones like the north pole. Shift-work midnight to 8:00am for example your circadian rhythm can adjust. But the problem is if your schedule changes all the time. Day-light savings time changes (accidents increase during these times).
