Document Summary

Pysc 1010 lecture three correlational method and statistics. Individual difference variables: variations from one person to another. Trying to determine a relationship between two different variables: e. g. the effects of abuse on self-esteem in children. In an experiment you would assign children to an abused group and a non- abused group. Correlational method would be a better research method. Need to develop scores: e. g. the effects of abuse on self-esteem on children. Everyone in the group is assigned a score for abuse and self esteem. Need individuals with varying levels of abuse and self esteem: e. g. effects of fatigue on test scores. Experimental method: manipulate fatigue and randomly assign volunteers into fatigue groups (the variable) Correlational method: getting data with varying levels. Data can be plotted onto a scatter plot. Scatter plot: the closer the dots resemble a line, stronger the correlation.
