Abrogation of the treaty: at first, popular in both countries, combination of factors leading to its abrogation, us southern states saw absorption of bna as increasing power for northern states, us angry over british interference during war. Components of confederation settlements federal controls imposed upon the provinces: division of powers, division of financial resources, provincial representation in central institutions, certain cultural guarantees territorial expansion.
