44 views4 pages

Document Summary

We actually are looking at an embryo in mom that are high risk for genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. Prenatal screening = looking at every embryos and screening for many disorders. We do not do prenatal screening except for specific groups. We do not do screening for strength, height, mental abilities, etc. Identify the risk of chromosomal or genetic conditions that may affect the health of the fetus or baby. Provide clear concise information for parents on any risks identified. Provide options for parents early in pregnancy when termination may be considered. Provide parents with information about the condition prior to birth so that special care can be planned. It is incorrect to assume that because we have a prenatal diagnostic test and because a couple has a prenatal testing done that they are automatically considering abortion. They go through prenatal testing to assure them that there are no problems. If there are problems, these problems can be addressed.
