Document Summary

Humans & other mammals have a complete digestive system (= has two openings start with mouth and ends at the anus). There is also an incomplete digestive system (= beginning and end are the same) Also, there are three other associated digestive organs which supplying the system through tubes salivary glands, liver and pancreas. The digestive system consists of: digestive tract/tube, associated organs. If we have a tube we have a lumer the open space within the digestive track = cavity. Walls of digestive tract consists of 4 layers: mucosa surrounding the lumer and is a mucus membrane. Some areas sacred digestive enzymes into the lumer. These are smooth muscles (ex. body can control them but we cannot heart muscle). If a muscle is circular they are going around the tract: serosa the thin outer protective layer. The mouth is for the initial processing of foods and includes both mechanical and chemical digestion.
