Document Summary

Epidermis is an epithelial tissue and is the top layer. The dermis layer is made of connective tissue and its the second layer, and the subcutaneous layer is mostly made out of adipose tissue, and is the lowest level. There are 4 or 5 general layers of cells in the epidermis. 5 layers in thick skin and 4 layers in thin skin: the extra fth layer is called stratum lucidum, and it"s in the soles of feet, palms, and ngers. Keratinocytes are what make up all 5 of these layers. We also have langerhans cells which petrol around looking for infectious microorganisms and precancerous cells, and getting rid of them. There are also merkel cells that send impulses to the brain when we feel pressure or touch. The melanocytes have extensions out of their cell membrane that contain melanin pigment, which is what colours skin.
