Drug therapy problems: (listed in order of priority: dave is at high risk of cardiovascular disease (frs ten year risk > 30%) and requires initiation of drug therapy. He can incorporate resistance training alongside his walks 3 times per week. This will also help with keeping his diabetes well controlled. Justify your recommendations (interventions) considering efficacy, safety, convenience & cost. As such, he is stratified as a high-risk patient, meaning he must modify his health and behaviour and initiate statin therapy. Statins are hmg-coa reductase inhibitors, and are first line because they are the most effective at lowering ldl-c, yet have some capacity for lowering tc and raising hdl-c. Most statins are given only at bedtime, except rosuvastatin, which can be given at any time of day, allowing the patient to decide convenience. Rosuvastatin was my statin of choice for dave. It is the most effective statin at reducing ldl-c levels in the body.
