Similarly to plato, believed strongly that all motion is the universe is constant and circular around a fixed earth. Convinced the earth does not move b/c: thought experiment of the arrow. Earth is fixed at the centre of the universe (geocentric) The universe is divided into the terrestrial realm (earth) and the celestial realm (the heavens), where different laws of nature apply. Sky: everything obeys a predictable cycle: all matter in the terrestrial realm is composed of four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. Rather than an actual fire, layer was more like a layer able to be ignited into fire. Motion of everything on earth due to matter wanting to return to its elemental layer.
