Staples are commodities that have high natural resource content produced for export. Describes the canadian economic development where exports are the most important products in the economy, and drive economic growth. The staples thesis is not able to explain why production and endowment of a natural resource in one region can create such development and growth, while the same endowment in another region doesn"t create anything. Initial endowments are a regions prior accumulation of population, financial capital, productive capacity, entrepreneurial class and political power.
