Document Summary
London had won the bid for the olympics at the start of the war, but the war went on and a number of olympic games were skipped. The blitz was the german bombing campaign of the british cities: it devastated britain. English residents lived on rations, so to them hosting the olympics seemed to be very wasteful and did not help them nancially. September 7th, 1940 was the beginning of the german blitz. The reason that it ended was because germany was getting ready to invade russia: the blitz caused sever housing shortage, and tons were homeless. During the games, food, petrol, and buildings were subject to rations: this is why those olympics became known as the austerity games. Athletes were housed in existing conditions, and were given double rations so that they could be able to compete. Bi-poliarity: this means that there are only two poles, in this case two superpowers.
