Physicians and pharmacists are at the mercy of drug companies: there should be communication b/w family doctor and pharmacists. Guilty parties: the danger of medications, 1) the drugs adverse reaction, 2) the physician, 3) the patient compliance, result in about 25% of hospital admissions and 12,000 deaths. Prescribing cascade: when a medication for a primary condition gets side-effects that make people think it is another condition that is why they end up w/ so many drugs. Placebo: sugar pills or saline solution used in psychiatry or pain management. Long-term care facilities (ltc facilities: are being investigated. Rules: once a year and look for expiry date (drugs should be kept cool) Internet and drugs: educate themselves by the internet and self-medicate. Is the information on the website valid is it approved by health canada. Bottom line it takes time and is costly so ma(cid:374)y people do(cid:374)"t take that app(cid:396)oa(cid:272)h and instead take pain killers.
