It is our blood pressure that determines ow rate throughout the body, and cardiac output has an e ect on blood pressure: the other thing that a ects pressure is the diameter of the blood vessels. Increasing sympathetic activity increases heart rate, and decreasing sympathetic activity decreases heart rate: increase sodium through the f type channel, and increases intracellular calcium through the. T type channel, which increases contraction, and increases epinephrine. Congestive heart failure: heart can"t generate anymore pressure to push blood around, the heart can"t maintain cardiac output or ow (q, it is called congestive because there is uid in the system. So the heart has now lost its ability to stretch to ll with blood. Myocardial infarction: no blood ow to the heart muscle itself, the heart muscle cells die and never come back.
