KINE 2049 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Exercise Intensity, Factorial Experiment
Document Summary
Adding more levels to independent variable allows examination of more complex relationships (if they exist) This is easiest way to increase the info yield from an experiment. These are experiments with two or more independent variables. Note that factor and independent variable are synonymous. This is another important way to increase complexity. Goal is to explore how 2 or more independent variables act alone & together. Advantages: reflect real life better than experiments with only one independent variable, more efficient with time and other resources than single factor experiments, availability of info called interaction. Has to do with how independent variables combine their effects on dependent. Only available in designs with 2 or more independent variables (obviously) Simplest factorial design is one dependent variable, 2 independent variables, each with 2 levels: this is a 2 x 2 design (2 by 2), with 4 treatment conditions.
