Document Summary

Relative risk = (probability of event when exposed / probability of event when not exposed) Rr is the method statistians use to find risk of stuff. Like smoking is 6 times more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smoker. If rr= 1 (that means no risk of outcome of exposed v. s non exposed, do difference whether you take drug or placebo. If rr > 1 that means that there is increased risk of outcome (probability of event when exposed) meaning placebo or control is better. If rr < 1 that means there is decreased risk of outcome (more probability when event not exposed) meaning treatment is better than control. Scientists used rr and cleverly modified interpretation it provides in a way that delivers the outcome and results they are looking for. Cholesterol and lipid research skewed their research to look more favorable, the placebo and treatment group were pretty similar, like identical but they still got a 24% reduction!
