Document Summary
Gross anatomy: investigates anatomical structures that are visible with the unaided eye. Systemic anatomy: an approach that studies a complete system in the body. Anatomical position: standing, face/eyes forward, hands by side, palms forward, heels together, toes forward: thumb always lateral (away from body), and little finger medial (close to body, standardized position. Medial: toward the midline of the body. Lateral: away from the midline of the body. Distal: further from the trunk: proximal is closer to midline of body, distal is further away from main trunk of body. Three cardinal planes: coronal/frontal plane (divides front and back, transverse plane (top and bottom), sagittal plane (left and right) Near surface of body is superficial (ex; skin) to intermediate to deep (ex; muscle) 4 types of tissues: epithelial, connective, muscle, nerve.
