Contact is generally from person to person for viruses and via persons, animals, plants, food, soil and water for bacteria: our immune system protects us somewhat from infection. Lymphatic system: vessels/glands that pick up fluid, protein, lipids, etc. Contain wbcs that trap and destroy and filter pathogens. Histamine causes blood vessels to dilate and fluid to accumulate.
