KINE 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: University Of Manchester, Sarcomere, Soleus Muscle
Document Summary
Kine 1020 - muscle recruitment/contraction: fiber types. There are different types because there are different types of calcium pumps and myosin. To tell different types of fiber, you stain them chemically and they differ in color: skeletal muscle (motor unit) fiber types. All muscles have all fiber types, the only difference is the percentage every muscle has of each. We can select more power in a movement by selecting more of that fiber type in a muscle; muscle recruitment; recruiting motor units. A motor unit is one motor nerve coming out of the spine innovating multiple fibers; always select one fiber type; can have one (cid:373)oto(cid:396) u(cid:374)it (cid:271)(cid:396)a(cid:374)(cid:272)hi(cid:374)g out to (cid:373)ultiples t(cid:455)pe 1(cid:859)s et(cid:272): type i slow twitch.
