Just as men aren"t taught to acknowledge their privilege, whites are not taught to recognize their status. Denial protects/prevents awareness about and entrench that privilege. It shows us that others are not as privileged. Your good fortune is at the expense of others. Allows everyone to recognize daily situations in which privilege is exercised. People can relate to many of those situations. To ignore those signs becomes a conscious decision.
