Cosmetic surgery as a way to look normal. Foucault: the act of defining normal is an act of power. Normalizing judgement -> steps of normalization: we observe, based on what we see we rank people into categories. We want to be somewhere in the middle and not extremes. Getting rid of what is not normal or flawed in order to look normal. According to foucault normal is what we"re striving for. Normal body always co-constructed in opposition to the flawed body. Definition of the flawed body too long jewish noses, too flat african-american ones those whose bodies are not white/young enough (george and rail). Gabby douglas olympic gold medalist and first african american woman to win olympics all around instead people focused on her hair.
