Critique of race: race is everywhere; used as a descriptor, risky topic and has many consequences, there are physiological variations and commonalities and does include health, race classification systems are too simplistic and are socially constructed implications. 95-99% of our genes are the same: has very real and material consequences, attitudes, beliefs, behaviours, and assumptions that manifest hatred or contempt effects of race are violence, discrimination, privilege, racism, etc. for individuals who are different. Excuses for racism include negligence, not as intellectual, etc: racialization: process of imposing a social category on someone and subsequent experiences of oppression as a result. Definition of racism: institutional or systematic; includes policies, procedures of various places that, cultural or ideological; set of ideas and values that justify discriminatory result in exclusion of group. Race is a social construction practices on. People don"t relate the intent versus the effect: say racist comments, but say that wasn"t their intent.
