Document Summary

Kine 1000 - lecture 4: towards a new vision i. The true focus of revolutionary change is never merely the oppressive situation which we seek to escape, but that piece of the oppressor which is planted deep within each of us . We tend to assess our own victimization within some major system of oppression, however we fail to see how our thoughts and actions uphold someone else"s subordination. White feminists routinely point with confidence to their oppression as women but resist seeing how much their white skin privileges them. African-americans who possess analyses of racism often view poor white women as symbols of white power, despite the fact that they are powerless themselves. What we tell our children about society has thoughts and analysis ingrained through the nature of oppression and activism. Generally speaking, we only want privileges in our lives without giving thought about what is sacrificed for us to attain those privileges.
