Document Summary

In this essay i would like to use the critical skill of reading contextually to address the themes of utopias and dystopias. In this response paper i will be using the short story the ones who walk away from omelas and the garden of forking paths to illustrate my argument. First i would like to explain what exactly a utopia is because many people like to describe it as a perfect place or society were everything that pertains to set place or society is perfect. I would like to also add that a utopia can be a feeling as well. What i mean by feeling is you can attach an emotional aspect to the word and meaning of utopia; utopia isn"t just a tangible place, it is a state of mind. For example, a utopian place could be a tropical island with servants and no worries, or a utopian state of mind could be that of someone deeply in love.
