HUMA 1105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Iliad, Spear-Thrower
Document Summary
Lecture 18, the iliad book 22, 23, 24. Hector runs when he sees achilles coming for him: he is gripped by cold fear. We see priam who is a noble king being sad because his favourite son hector is going to die. Priam gives a speech about how horrible his death is going to be: warrior bodies are somehow beautiful in their death, but his death will be gruesome because the dogs will eat him. Hector gives a speech to himself, a monologue, of his inner thoughts. Zeus now has no will, he has completely taken his hands out and left matters to the humans. The iliad has pushed women to the side, they"re not really discussed much and have very little role besides to mourn. Achilles takes on a leadership role in book 23.
