HRM 2600 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Constructive Dismissal, Eustress, Workplace Incivility
Document Summary
Chapter 3- equity and diversity in the workplace. Employment equity: is the employment of individuals based on non-biased and fair judgements. There are four groups of people that are usually discriminated against in the workplace: women, aboriginals, visible minorities and people with disabilities. This leads to high rate of unemployment, segregation at the workplace, under representation in high managerial positions and pay inequities. Managers should be committed to maintaining workplace equity and they should appoint an accountable senior manager to be in charge. Data collection: self-identification surveys, stock data and flow data. Employee system reviews: systemic discriminations, special measures and reasonable accommodation. Pay equity: this is divided into two sub categories namely: pay equality and pay equity. Pay equality occurs when individuals working the same jobs are paid the same salary despite differences. Pay equity occurs when individuals whose jobs are of the same value to the organization are paid the same salary.
