Document Summary

The material in these readings provides an extensive overview of health human resources planning within the canadian healthcare system. The readings indicate that the number of physicians has increased in canada over the last 25 years. However, this increase has been minimal in comparison to the other oecd countries. In comparison, the number of nurses in canada was decreasing unil 2003 and then increased to the present day. Several of the new doctors in canada are from other countries. My reacion to reading this aricle is that canada is now increasing the numbers of physicians and nurses which is good for paients. I was not aware about the ethical issues of recruiing foreign-born doctors into canada who might have helped their own country instead. The material in these readings provides an extensive overview of the theory of medical dominance. This term refers to the increase in the professional authority and poliical inluence of physicians.
