Health care = popular national social program. Role of government in health care = supported and liked by canadians. Public takes polls on quality of health care services, priorities regarding health care services, financial commitments. Controlled and managed by federal government of canada. All agree that that funding of health care services is a necessity. Should be overlooked carefully (pros and cons; are people benefitting?) Should consider who pays and if health care services should evolve. Health care service money as a political issue. Focus on health information, technology assessment, research. Implementation of ehr > led by canada health infoway. Implementation of information systems to manage prescription drug treatments. Hospital based services becomes home/community based services unless critical medical services needed then hospital services available. Reform recommendations: public funding should continue covering services of what delivery method is being offered; post-acute services (rehabilitation/palliative services that person receives while in hospital) should be delivered outside of the hospital setting.
