Staying alive: critical perspectives on health, illness, and health care. Purpose of chapter: discussing how we come up with the knowledge about health, illness and health care issues; presenting research methods used to understand health issues. This is to help us understand how to deliver health more effectively. These researchers use the epidemiology approach: for others, humans" unique ability to interpret their world (in other words, their experiences) in different ways directs attention to studying these understandings. These researchers use the sociology approach: and for others, health studies is about examining the distribution of power and influence and whether these policies conform to human rights codes and ethical principles. These researchers use the political economy, and human rights approaches. A kp is a set of basic beliefs or assumptions about knowledge and how it is created. Also concerned with the understandings that people have about these societal structures and the resource distributions these structures create.
