But, christians who were roman citizens were beheaded of being executed/condemned to death by being publicly eaten by wild animals. Murmillo = heavy-armed gladiator with a fish ( murmillo ) on his helmet. Secutor = gladiator that follows or chases opponents. Equites = gladiator that fights on horseback ( equos = horse in latin) The circus games were mainly chariot races.
