The invention of motherhood: from hunting and gathering societies to agriculture: the consolidation of patriarchal. Ride: from agriculture to urbanization (industrial) biggest change, the invention of motherhood, ww2 and beyond: the privatization of motherhood as full-time mothering (not as catacaustic) (good mother was a working mother, 1990s and beyond: intensive mothering. Ten ideological assumptions of patriarchal motherhood: essentialization: all women are mothers, all mothers are women, privatization: locates the work mothers do in the home, work happens in home. Idealization: biologicalization: an emphasis on blood ties, real mother is blood mother, expertization: motherhood has become expertized, must be an expert in caring. Intensification: not just enough to be around ur kids, must spend quality time : depoliticization: Patriarchy is a recent invention, before privileges were not given to males.
