Document Summary

Lecture five: confederation ii: british north america act was the document that created canada as a dominion. What was significant about the bna act was the it spoke a lot of about the old country (the british) and not much about the new country (canada). It is tricky to speak about pre 1867 lit being canadian lit. Over time we grew into the sense of a distinct nation. We did this by slowly getting our flag. It was a process rather than a moment. Confederation poets: first group of poets that wanted to write good enough poetry to establish canada as a nation. Roberts (cid:498)canada(cid:499) is a key poem that makes us think that how long are we: crawford"s poem: how do you like me now. Page 321: first example of canada post bna act, state/national engagement with indigenous peoples, the indian act remains in effect today but in different terms as before.
