Need to know which hazards exist and where they are. Goal: establish and exhaustive list of hazards upon which further analysis can be done. Many methods exist to identify hazards: checklist, brainstorming, historical research, review existing plans and strategies, use of maps. Illustrative tools that assist disaster managers in identifying secondary hazards. Two primary methods: focus on effects of a single hazards. Two methods: focus on possible causes of single identified consequences, all initiating event are mapped out. Summarize all the necessary information about a hazard. Have all these things then ask questions (if it will happen again etc. ) Tectonic plates associated with he movement of the earth"s plates. These hazards typically occur where the earth plates interact. In ontario ottawa and montreal: affects ontario due to the ashes, in iceland volcano eruption leads all flights to go around so that ashes don"t go into the engine. Coastal erosion where there are beaches.
