She asked happily married wives and mothers as to why they read romance novels. She questioned mothers, and they typically responded by saying they are a stay at home wife and mother, she is the primary caregiver for them. She felt an emotional lakc in her life. Romance novels filled that void, they felt emotionally nurtured because they would identify with the female protagonists. The problem with romance novels was that they end, which is why this feeling of nurturing is temporary. As a result, they constantly read romance novels, and thus can be seen as addictive.
