In order to solve the mystery: the mystery is structured like a puzzle, when readers read these stories, it is supposed to unlock their own detective skills. The criminal must be someone mentioned in the early part of the story: stops authors from using a deus ex machina: this can be a divine intervention or unexpected event which solves the case.
