Sex work: deemed as immoral in society, the dangerous health aspects scare society safety and violence. Inherently involves the harm of women by the man or by society. Defining sex work the sex industry includes a variety of sexual services, entertainment, and products: sex worker is a broad term that includes, legal professions (modeling, camming pornography, stripping, gray market /semi-legal/illegal work (massage, escorts, street prostitution) So people deal with these harms in order to make money. Johns were not criminalized (people buying the sex) males sexual needs were not illegal. Prostitution as status offence: you could be subject to charges for being a prostitute and being believed to be one, ex. Ms. alfred young she was believed to be a prostitute and was charged with vagrancy: ex. Idea that women and girls were bring lured into sex trade trafficked and against their will: closely connected to drug criminalization.
