The criminal justice system is a site of human tragedies. The statute is blind folded and cant see anyone, shes neutral and objective. She"s holding a sward, which represents power. Caring scales, doing the careful weighing of the evidence, or arriving at a verdict. These 5 systems, is the measure of how just our system is. The law is not just a system for resolving criminal behavior, but also performance of ideas, which help us make sense of the role of law in our social world. History of justice linked to history of capitalism: we live in a capitalist society, therefore we have a legal system hat reflects capitalism. 1600s: new class of wealth producers- bourgeoisie: wealth= money (not land) Wanted to have a new set of rules that would free them from property mobility, that would be consistent and knowable.
