Document Summary
Networks have 3 main usages or applications including discovery, communication and collaboration. The internet"s discovery capability ranges from education to government services to entertainment and commerce. The web"s major strength poses a challenge; the vast amount of information on the web can make it difficult to navigate through the web, so people resort to search engines, directories and portals. Search engine: a computer program that searches for specific information, by keywords and reports the results. Webcrawlers: computer programs that browse the web and creates a copy of all visited pages: search engines then index these pages, to create fast searches. Metasearch engines: search several engines at once and integrate the findings of the various search engines to answer queries posted by users. The huge amount of information published on the internet is also available in many languages. Multilingual sites are a competitive necessity because of the global nature of the business environment.
