A manager can be an individual at any level of the organization: e. g. Individuals can take on formal or informal managerial: e. g. a team leader may or may not be formally assigned a managerial role, though that person may have much of the responsibilities of a manager. Planning: assess organization goals, develop plan/strategies to achieve goals. Organizing: how to allocate resources, how tasks will be assigned and accomplished, staffing, scheduling, etc. Controlling: assess if organization is progressing towards goals, deal with problems and conflicts, establish and enforce rules, performance standards. Leading: motivating employees towards goals, communicate ideas and plans clearly. Interpersonal roles tasks that involve relationships b/w other organizational members or external parties: figurehead (ceremonial or symbolic in nature e. g. giving out employee awards, leader (motivator, communicator, coordinator of workers, liaison (communicate with other departments/parties) Work broken down into small, simple jobs: observation and measurement, one best method.
