Even though it has been growing, in recent years thrifty has experienced financial difficultiesowing to competition from air canada and other charter carriers such as. Westjet, increased operating costs arising from skyrocketing fuel prices, and recently- the effects of september 11 on the travel industry. Despite best efforts, the smith family has been unable to turn thrifty around. So, effective january 2002, the smith family has hired a skilled airline executor mr. High flier to take over thrifty"s operations. Mr. flier is reputed to be one of the best managers in the industry.
