Women were with men helping with agriculture, women were providing the key things, like sheering wool, making food, taking care of the family, building buildings and infrastructure. In many indigenous communities were based on matriarchs. In terms of agricultural communities, they were the farmers and they had all kinds of knowledge. Indigenous women were critically important for the survival of pioneer families. Masculinity was based on land, and producing male offspring.
