High culture: sum of traditions, practices, languages, symbols, values, ideologies, and material objects that are associated with the upper class. High culture is judged in relation to popular culture, the majority culture cannot be high culture. It is treated as something that one possesses and must be earned. Is an evaluation of their cultural background and taste. Is a possession that gives one exclusive access. Many are excluded from high culture, for it would not be worth anything if it were available to everyone. Class distinction based on someones socioeconomic class. Ethnic culture: the sum of traditions, practices, languages, symbols, values, ideologies, and material objects that are associated with a cultural minority group. Judged in relation to and often from the perspective of the ethnic culture of the majority (ethnocentrism) Ethnocentrism: evaluation of other cultures according to preconceptions originating in the standards and customs of one"s own culture.
