RE103 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Ceridwen, Lightdark, Human Body
Document Summary
Neo-pagan: neo-pagan communities share a common interest in revitalizing what they perceive to be pagan rituals and understandings about our world, our role as human beings, as well as relationships with our fellow human beings, and nature. A similar feature between indigenous traditions and neo-pagan understandings is their close relationship and regard for the natural environment. Some neo-pagan communities have woven aboriginal understandings within their ritual practices; a contentious issue as some would consider this a blatant appropriation of another culture"s ways and ceremonies. Another similar aspect between the two traditions is the lack of uniform religious ritual and understandings. Neo-pagan, like aboriginal communities, are umbrella terms for a diverse number of groups. Neo-pagans consist of communities of contemporary pagans, wiccans, and the spiritual but not religious. some new age religious practitioners may draw on neo-pagan rituals, but others may not. Wiccan: wicca is a term whose history and usage scholars have debated.
