In addition to constructing the language of their discipline, psychologists construct their investigative situation in particular ways. Psychologists are intimately related to their topics of interest and must reflect on it. Research relationship consists of investigative roles, standards for ethical conduct of research, and expectations for research report-writing. After adoption of hypothetico-deductive method in 1940s, psychologists took a formulaic approach to interacting w participants and remained as detached and objective as possible. General shift from flexible system where participants sometimes fulfilled other roles, and where personal information was often collected, to a system where participant only provided data and no personal information reflects decrease in the quality of the research relationship. The nurnberg military tribunal, conducted in germany after wwii, instigated development of a code of ethics for medicine and science in us in 1949. 1953: apa introduced the first rudimentary ethical guidelines for research + clauses to protect investigators from possible litigation.
